War with the Newts

Berlin’s hardcore punk scene’s new darlings War with the Newts have been hurling and whirling across stages since 2016, leaving behind a trail of happiness and destruction. For the last two years Kostja, Alberto and Alexandré have toured, recorded, screamed and raged all across Germany and have now forced this chaotic energy into their debut album “Muerte мій Amour”.

10 Songs that are full of raised fists, banged heads and moshed pits, with the anger of The Bronx, the weirdness and rage of Refused and the drive of Clowns. The three piece melt their different roots – Kostja has a Ukrainian background, Alberto is from Spain and Alexandré came from France – and their shared anger and frustration about the world into the most intense and ass-kicking hardcore punk rock to come out of Berlin’s music scene in years.

“Muerte” (Spanish: Death) “мій” (Ukrainian: (is) my) “Amour” (French: Love) - “Death is my love” is split into halves. The first 5 songs - “Muerte” – deal with darker themes like self-destruction (“Queen McDregs & King O’Scum”) or the transformation of love to hate (“EVOL my friends”). The second halve “Amour” seeks love in unexpected and still very dark corners. An ode to chaos (“L13”), a mourning about the loss of self-love (“Oh, spare change…”) or the idolizing love that is never real (“Teenage Goddess (from outer Space)”) are examples of the theme of this album. First death, then love. That perfectly describes a War with the Newts show experience.
